Patients come to hospitals during their most vulnerable times. Many times they are scared, anxious, in pain, and looking for answers. They entrust their lives to the nurses and physicians that are at the hospitals. Hospitals need to show their community that they care about all their patients, and are interested in finding ways to continuously improve patient quality care.
The patients and their family members know quality care when they see it. It a combination of many things: is a nurse's response time, a doctor’s bedside manners, and cleanliness all affect how people perceive the hospital and its staff. The main focus behind quality improvement is to enhance safety, effectiveness, and efficiency.
Directors of Nursing and their staff should care about quality patient care because it shows the community they are interested, and keeps them in competition. Patients are easier to serve when they feel as if their needs are being met. This leads to a happier nursing staff and Director of Nursing. Overall, always trying to improve on quality patient care helps the hospital, its staff, and patients at the end of the day.
Communication is a vital key to improve quality of patient care. This is something that can help Directors of Nurses and Nurses with their patients. Communication is important in all aspects of life, especially when it comes to Nurses understanding the needs of their patients. It’s equally as important for the Director of Nursing and Nurses to communicate and be on the same page.
A hospital commonly knows how well their staff is doing through several methods, and one of these methods is surveys. Sometimes, after a patient visits a hospital or stays for a period of time, the hospital’s Director of Nursing or other Directors ask for the patient to take this survey.
However, The Atlantic has found that hospitals can also be putting too much pressure on their Directors of Nursing and nurses to keep their quality of patient care at an all-time high.
Another important aspect of quality patient care is hospital wide protocols and regulations. It is important for all staff and directors to understand hospital-wide protocols because it keeps staff, directors, and patients safe. This means everyone understands procedures and what to do in chaotic or crisis situations.
Overall, quality patient care is important because the main goals are to be efficient, safe, and effective. Without a Director of Nursing and their staff not being able to correctly do these things, it could all go terribly wrong very quickly!
