How Do Nurses Affect Their Patients Health?

There are currently 2.95 million nurses employed in the United States! Plus, the number of nurses is projected to keep growing by 15% by 2026. This is more than the average for most occupations. Nurses work daily as patient advocates and are on the front line of responding to medical crisis and daily work. The success of a nurse can be determined by a number of different items, but one of the most important is the patient's recovery time and mental state during this period. The care they give is important to about 3.5 million patients in the United States.

It is a fact that people are living longer than ever before, but this also leads to more chronic conditions and illnesses. This is why the importance of nurses on a patient's mental and physical health is more important than it ever has been before.

The Importance Of Positive Thinking And Patients

Patients ask their nurses about the uncertainty concerning their conditions and what lies ahead. The families all want to know what steps they should take and how to approach the situation. It can be overwhelming, and it can consume you completely. The attitude you give off is infectious to your patients. A positive attitude can increase patient satisfaction overall. This is something small that can be done every single day!

Provide A Sense Of Compassion To All Patients

Patients want to feel cared for and understood as best as possible and how they feel is up to you. Compassion provides a sense to patients that their conditions are being heard, understood, and acted upon. A patient looks up to a nurse for guidance and information and possibly a shoulder to cry on. You can foster these relationships with patients! Furthermore, it could lead to a patient trusting you more than before and revealing more information that could help to a better diagnosis of what is going on. These are ten ways to show compassion towards patients. A poll done in 2015 states that over 80% of hospitalized patients said compassion care is extremely important. Yet nearly half of the patients surveyed said the U.S. healthcare system lacks compassion.

How Directors Of Nursing And Nurse Leaders Can Create & Maintain A Caring Culture

It is important for Directors of Nursing and Nurse Leaders to provide classes, workshops, advice and more to their nurses to create a healthy environment for patients. This also falls into the category of quality patient care. Quality Patient Care makes sure the needs of the patients are met to the best of the nurse’s abilities. How well a hospital is doing in terms of patient’s feedback is directly related to quality patient care.

A Nurse’s Atmosphere Plays A Critical Role

A nurse can only do his job to the best of his  ability. This is dependent on the atmosphere the nurse is working in. The same notion of compassion and positive attitude can trace back to Directors of Nursing and Nurse Leaders. If they are creating an unfavorable and hostile environment, it will affect their nurses. In return, this can cause decrease the quality of patient care, cause more staff turnover, and even cause higher mortality rates and staff burn-out.

Quality Patient Healthcare is a big job and takes more than one person to complete it! It takes everyone working together to create an environment that helps patients recover as quickly as possible and as healthy as possible. A little compassion and positive thinking can help both nurses and their patients at the end of the day! Without realizing it, a nurse affects their patients state more than they know.
