Hospital Procedure During COVID-19

Hospital Procedure During COVID-19

COVID-19 has had an effect on all industries, and the healthcare industry is no exception. Not only have hospitals had to make changes in processes and design, but nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals have also had to change to prevent the spread of illness and keep them and their patients safe.

Even beyond healthcare professionals, janitorial staff and other hospital employees have had to make big changes in order to take the proper precautions for infection control. Many are predicting that these precautions will stick around even after the pandemic, but what kind of effects could that have on hospitals and the entire healthcare industry?

Protocol

A huge piece of the healthcare puzzle that has been revamped is protocol. Mainly when it comes to infection control, but protocol in many areas has changed. More than one visitor is no longer allowed per patient in order to prevent exposure. This means that visitors are mostly limited to primary caregivers. In addition, social distancing and cleaning procedures will likely continue to stay in full practice in order to keep things clean and sanitary for healthcare professionals and patients.

Telehealth

Another huge way that healthcare is changing due to COVID-19 is the emphasis on telehealth. Almost all physicians have begun enforcing telehealth in order to limit exposure to themselves and the patients. There are many apps and different technologies that enable this to be virtually seamless. This means that providers can schedule appointments and see patients virtually and still provide quality healthcare. This is likely to stick around because it is oftentimes easier for the patient to find time to do a virtual appointment. In addition, it can help slow the spread of other diseases and infections.

Transparency

Another big change that has begun due to COVID-19 is the level of transparency between companies and their consumers. This is definitely the case with healthcare as well. Many people are feeling very cautious and unsure about entering healthcare facilities for fear that they will contract viruses and bacteria, so many providers have become increasingly more transparent about their procedures and safety measures. Now more than ever patients are fully informed about what precautions are being taken and what exactly that means for them. It is likely that this will also stick around in the future as it seems to promote trust in providers.

Storage

Hospitals and healthcare facilities already have storage rooms and systems in place, but how do those have the potential to change during and after COVID-19? Healthcare facilities have always had an emphasis on sterilization and cleaning practices, but they are now being extra vigilant. It is likely that many facilities will look to a better system of storage to be sure that everything is kept clean and sanitary.

A great way to promote positive, clean storage is with nurse server cabinets. This is because this system allows for items to be stocked from outside the patient room, which means less exposure for both the patient and the provider. Nurse server cabinets work to keep things organized while keeping things readily accessible, which promotes patient care.

COVID-19 is changing many things about our day-to-day life, which can sometimes be a negative, but when it comes to healthcare, most of the changes seem to be positive and safer for both patient and provider. Whether this is an increase in cleaning processes or the implementation of nurse server cabinets, patients can start feeling safer and providers can begin feeling more comfortable treating patients during this time.
