Healthcare predictions for 2019

The world of healthcare is vastly changing. From virtual reality to telemedicine and more, who can keep track of all the new technology and predictions out there. With so much information, it can be hard to know what’s in store for the healthcare field in 2019.

Because of this, FlowCARE compiled a list of the top four healthcare predictions of 2019 that are currently in the works and that can be expanded and implemented in 2019.

The four predictions for 2019:

Patient engagement

This is a critical factor in the financial system of healthcare systems. There has been a shift towards patients wanting a more consumer-driven experience. This experience is similar to going online paying a bill, getting support, calling someone and receiving something on your doorstep in days.

As Geeta Nayyar, M.D., states, “just like every other industry, healthcare is going to evolve into a consumer model - the consumer will be in the driver’s seat. So you’ll see healthcare organizations making big investments in patient engagement technology.”

What does this mean for healthcare? A patient centered care model needs to be implemented and set into place for the new year. With the shift of technology being implemented and Amazon and other ecommerce conglomerates moving into the healthcare field, patients are going to expect virtual visits, medication delivered to their doorsteps, reminders for appointments and even more.

Telemedicine

This was a prediction that all medical bloggers, professionals and healthcare professionals are talking about for a big healthcare technology change in 2019. In 2018, the prediction for the amount of patients using telemedicine was over seven million! Imagine the numbers for 2019. As stated above, the rise of a consumer model will increase the need for telemedicine methods. This helps out with patient engagement, gives access to more patients and drives down healthcare costs for patients as well.

There will be an urgent need for healthcare professionals to be accessible at all times and someone there to answer patient’s questions and concerns. A great way to help out professionals is setting up chatbots.

Chatbots

You log onto Facebook, go to a business page and a little screen pops up asking if you need any assistance. This is the basic of what a chatbot is. The more voice technology is made and utilized, the more healthcare will have to adapt. This allows for an automated response or conversation that be directed to the correct physician, medical wing or staff member. This keeps patient engagement and patient satisfaction up and allows for the right staff member to help the patient.

Blockchain problems

The blockchain system is still behind in the healthcare industry. A blockchain is still an uncommon term for some physicians and healthcare professionals in the field today.  This is where one big healthcare conglomerate takes over the other one. This affects everyone in the hospital. This changes the entire landscape of healthcare for the better or worse, depending on the blockchain.

The predictions of 2019 aren’t that far off from the predictions of 2018.  These predictions are thoughts and ideas that have been expanded on in 2018 and continue to be expanded on in 2019. The world of technology is vastly changing the current healthcare profession and industry as a whole.
